Help your new plants settle in
Plants go through some stress during shipping, so a little care when they arrive helps them recover and thrive. Follow these simple steps to give your new plants the best start.
Unpack gently and right away
Open the package as soon as it arrives and carefully remove the plant. Handle it by the pot, not the stem, and gently free any foliage that was secured for transit.
Let it rest and rehydrate
Place the plant in a shaded, sheltered spot for a day or two to recover from transit — don't put it straight into harsh sun. Water it lightly if the soil feels dry.
Don't repot immediately
Give the plant a few days to adjust before repotting. Repotting straightaway adds stress on top of transit stress. Once it's settled and perked up, you can move it to its final pot or spot.
Choose the right spot
Place the plant where it gets the light it needs — check whether it's a sun-lover or prefers shade. Gradually move sun-loving plants into full sun over a few days so they acclimatise.
Water correctly
Water when the top of the soil feels dry, and don't overwater a recovering plant — soggy soil causes root rot. Let the plant establish before heavy watering routines.
Hold off on fertiliser
Wait a couple of weeks before feeding. A freshly transplanted, settling plant doesn't need fertiliser yet — let it recover first, then feed gently.
Be patient
Some leaf drop or droop after transit is normal. With gentle care, light, and proper watering, most plants bounce back within a week or two and start growing strongly.
